Evolution vs creationism who is right

Catholics regard the creation descriptions in the Bible as parables written to provide moral instruction rather than as literal history, and therefore see no conflict between these accounts and the Theory of Evolution. The Church has deferred to scientists on matters such as the age of the earth and the authenticity of the fossil record. Papal pronouncements, along with commentaries by cardinals, have accepted the findings of scientists on the gradual appearance of life.

The Church's stance is that any such gradual appearance must have been guided in some way by God, but the Church has thus far declined to define in what way that may be. Many Protestant, and particularly Evangelical, churches, on the other hand, reject Evolution in favor of a literal, rather than figurative, interpretation of the book of Genesis. However, it is typically not specified which version of the creation account is being considered divinely inspired and hence "literally true".

This is problematic since there are two such accounts in the Bible Gen - Gen vs. Gen - Gen , and they contradict each other in numerous ways. For instance, order in which Adam vs. Share this comparison:.

The belief is also called intelligent design. Evolution is the change in the inherited traits of a population of organisms through successive generations. After a population splits into smaller groups, these groups evolve independently and may eventually diversify into new species. Testable No Yes Scientific No because the intelligent design point of view cannot be tested to prove or disprove its accuracy.

Yes; a scientific theory can be tested and proved to be false based on evidence. Types Young Earth Creationism, Gap creationism, progressive creationism, intelligent design, theistic evolution. The Points of View Evolutionary theory holds that living organisms that do not adapt to their environment fail to survive. Types of evolution Divergent evolution occurs when one species separates into two species, for example if they become separated geographically and have to adapt to different environments to survive.

The Evidence Evolution relies on evidence from fossil records, similarities between life forms, the geographic distribution of species, and recorded changes in species.

Criticism Here is a video of a debate between evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins and cardinal George Pell , a Catholic priest. It had never occurred to me how this small creature is, in and of itself, evidence of a creator until I heard Dr. Berkeley , elaborate on the fact that the rapid transformation which takes place during metamorphosis is diametrically opposed to the theory of evolution, which says that living organisms change very S-L-O-W-L-Y over L-O-N-G periods of Time.

The transformation from caterpillar to butterfly poses a Major Problem for evolution. This is because caterpillars come from butterflies. But evolutionary theory says that life changes from one form to another slowly i. But they also now have new jointed legs — with ligaments and tendons and nerves connected in just the right place so that the newly transformed creature can stand up and walk. And their wings also are jointed and have muscles attached in just the right place so that they can rapidly flap them back and forth to fly.

In this regard, Frank Sherwin quotes Richard Milton a non-creationist as follows with regard to this mystery:. It is completely beyond us. We know practically nothing about the plan or program governing the metamorphosis, or the organizing agency that executes this plan. Great Question. For the Moon should also have at least some say in whether or not it thinks that God had anything to do with the Creation of the Sun and the Earth and the Moon. Thanks to Tim Wildmon, and the authors of a new book, we now have our answer.

The orbital characteristics of the Moon and Earth, they say, are unlikely to exist by chance alone. Conversely, the Moon takes For example, the Moon is times closer to the Earth than the Sun and exactly times smaller than the Sun. And in orbits of the Moon, the Earth experiences 10, days. I was further told that science had demonstrated, or proven that we had evolved from apes, which evolved from lemurs, which evolved from squirrels, etc.

And within a few years of learning about God and who He is I discovered organizations like the Institute for Creation Research. I also remember looking into the Scriptures and finding one verse that seemed to suggest that perhaps the earth was much older than 6, years Gen. Therefore I am not going to be dogmatic about this, nor am I going to go into a lengthy discussion of it but rather simply provide the interested reader with various Links whereby he or she can check this out for himself or herself.

However, I will state that I believe that the Young Earth Viewpoint is in my opinion much more supported by the evidence both from Scripture and Science. Skip to content. The Fossil Record The fossil record also offers very little evidence for evolution. The belief that the earth is extremely old. But are they telling the truth, or fanciful stories based on very optimistic imaginations?

In fact, He created us that way. He want us to choose to believe in him even though we have no proof. This is called faith. He also wants us to be free to choose our own destiny. This is called freewill. We would also know that He can control everything, so free will would be threatened. Or are we just being manipulated like 7 billion puppets? Everything is being controlled or allowed by Him because He could easily change it if He wanted to.

So anyone who dies in a car accident, was meant to die in a car accident. Anyone born with a birth defect, was meant to be born with a birth defect. There would no longer be fate, accidents or mistakes. Everything that happens would be on purpose and conceived by God as part of His master plan.

This means war, natural disasters, disease, famine… all created by God. Yes, we could still blame Satan. After all, if God is real, then Satan must be too, right? But that only brings up more questions.

Casting him out of Heaven just sounds like a convenient excuse for blaming all the chaos on Earth. If Satan is the cause, that means God must allow it to be.

We may get to the point where people may no longer claim responsibility for their actions. Free will itself may vanish as everyone blames God for everything. Maybe God would no longer be seen as the ultimate good. People may start to see him as an ultimate villain torturing us and making us suffer for his own amusement.

Would we stop trying to find cures for disease, or develop new technologies, or form peace treaties? Or would we just give up and accept whatever fate God has in store for us? Would all this really happen? Maybe not.

My point is if we could truly prove God exists, we would be on a slippery slope of faith and free will. And this is not what He wants. So God had to create this world in such a way to keep his existence a mystery.

In other words, he had to create doubt. And not just a little doubt, it has to be a lot of doubt — strong enough to challenge even the most die-hard believers.

In short, the doubt has to be insurmountable. Now look at the world we live in: Disease, destruction, suffering, war… We constantly question how a loving God would create such a hostile world? Why would he create all this only to make us suffer, hate and kill each other? But doubt alone is not enough. If creationism was the only option, it would still prove God exists. This is where evolution comes in. Did we really evolve from monkeys, or did God plant those skeletons there as clues for us to find?

Did dinosaurs really roam the earth or are they just red herrings to cast more doubt? The answer may be irrelevant. The truth is every doubt makes us question his existence, which forces us to depend more on our faith. Okay, this is where my original essay ended. But in my attempt to be fair, I want to look at it from the other way.

That means there is no supreme being watching us from heaven and no master plan for our existence. We only exist because random events happened millions of years ago in just the right way for life to germinate. In other words, life is a freak accident, nothing more.

So when we die, we die.
